How Well Can You Sell?

While gamification is an exciting and useful training method, it’s not always the best route for our team; often, we’re sharing important information about product details or explaining safety features for electrical work. When the sales team approached us asking for an escape room-inspired course for dealers during their annual meeting, our team couldn’t wait to get started.

To start, we worked on the end: we decided which parameters we wanted salespeople to be ‘graded’ on in order to successfully complete the course. Then, we collaborated internally and with SMEs to create a detailed storyboard of our ideas. After that, I got to work creating environments and objects in Illustrator and interactions using variables in Storyline.

In this course, the attendees were tasked with getting to know an imaginary grower’s personality, situation, and product needs. They were asked to interact socially, solve simple puzzles, and design a proposal to meet whichever needs they may have (or may not have) uncovered. Depending on this proposal, learners received either a Good, Better, or Best result. This course received great feedback from the meeting attendees, and our team has plans to create similar trainings for future meetings as a result.
